Doing things for others is a natural part of being human. Neuroscientists have proven that doing well and good dumps, oxytocin and dopamine, good hormones, into our systems. It is self-fulfilling; the more we do good things, especially for others, the more we are motivated to do it again. Our hormones urge us on. It is how we have evolved as social beings. It is how we will progress.
Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but they will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.
– Marcus Aurelius (161-180 CE).
Consider what it is to live the Good Life — then do it!
Many thanks for the response Bahis. There are many local social problems, poverty, joblessness, drugs, crime; but none come close to the effect of those we need to keep out of our public services, especially the criminal justice system and in the community in a productive way. And at the top of the list is what to do with the mentally ill. To be perfectly mercenary, doing the right thing means huge savings to me and you as tax payer. Beyond that we loose the productivity of people who can contribute to the community. If you buy the book let me know what you think I can go on about this after all “I wrote the book.” Thanks
I hope you will buy the book and put it to WORK. It is a unique way of looking at doing good in our communities. IT is unique as it describes in detail how to build permanent solutions to permanent problems beginning with keeping mental health consumers in the community and productive. Thanks for your comment. Good luck
